A post-holiday calm characterizes the U.S. market, where good demand for high-quality goods in top makes is still notable. The Belgian exchange is seeing slow movement, with many traders in Macau for the jewelry show there. Ramat Gan also experienced an absence of traders, local and foreign, due to the Macau show; however, healthy activity continues to prevail there.

In Mumbai, decent movement continues to define the trading atmosphere, and both high asking prices and strong demand continue for larger sizes. Traders in Hong Kong have very high expectations that they will see a successful and profitable show, a sentiment boosted by a good amount of foreign traders and inventory that has been brought in from overseas.

U.S.

Large sizes enjoyed strong demand and firm prices right up to the holidays; however, in the days following the New Year, the market quieted down and demand levels dropped. Demand for high-quality goods in top makes is still present, while lower-end goods are sluggish. Retailers are busy calculating holiday sales, and the industry is fairly quiet. Fancy colored goods maintain healthy demand.
