Belgium Alrosa diamond What is your opinion of Russian-Belgian cooperation on the diamond market? What would you say about Alrosa’s plans to increase exports to your country?

Guy Verhofstadt ( Belgium prime minister): It’s been a very long-standing and very fruitful cooperation. We are the main market for Alrosa and we want to buy as many diamonds as possible from Alrosa.

HRD changed name RD Antwerp NV is a newly formed company with commercial activities both in Belgium and abroad, which include the grading and certification of polished diamonds and colored gemstones and educational programs in diamond and gemstone grading and identification.

HRD Antwerp NV is the recently formed commercial subsidiary of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) , formerly known as the Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD). 

AWDC will do the promotion for the HRD Antwerp NV

(found at diamonds.net) The Antwerp World Diamond Centre, which assumed the marketing  functions of the former HRD,  named Monique Van Trappen as the new chief marketing officer. She will assume the role February 15, 2007.

Van Trappen's duties include the development of the organization’s marketing strategy and image across Belgium and abroad. She has more than 25 years of experience in management and marketing and holds an MA in political and social sciences from KUL, University of Leuven

• 30.000 people are directly or indirectly employed by the Belgian diamond sector.

Antwerp is the world’s diamond capital but there are other large centers such as the Indian production hubs of Mumbai and Surat; Israel is a complementary trade centre, mainly supplying North America. Dubai is the regional distribution centre for the Middle East. New York is the primary port of entry into the United States, and the largest market for diamonds in the world.
